NZ Elm

Trade Name: Elm
Botanical Name: Ulmus Procera

Availability: Readily available at present, but not for the long term.

Air Drying Density: 550 Kg/m3 (England)

Characteristics: The grain is brown to straw coloured with an attractive, wild interlocked nature. The strong vessels give it a coarse, distinctive appearance.

Traditional uses: In Europe it is a traditional cabinet makers material, from which furniture, fitments and especially coffins were made. A spectacular use is the London sewer pipes, many of which remail today. NZ stock has been used for furniture, fitments, panelling and craft work.

Generation-4 Timber Top specification:
The wild grain of Elm makes very striking timber tops. The open grain is filled by the Generation-4 finish.

The Generation-4 finish presents a dense but flexible, low maintainance finish which is waterproof, acid and heat resistant.
