Botanical Name: Cupressus macrocarpa

Source: Native to California, grown as shelterbelts and woodlots throughout New Zealand

Availability: Continuously available in various grades.

Air Drying Density: 485kg/m3

Characteristics: The prized clear heartwood is a flecked, light golden brown in colour and is often used instead of Kauri. The dressing, panelling and utility grades are also widely used. Naturally durable and stable. Dries easily. Clear wood machines well due to its fine, even texture. Other grades are variable. Polishes well.

Traditional uses: Fences and gates, doors, windows and weather-boards. Flooring, furniture and cabinets.

Generation-4 Timber Top specification:
Macrocarpa is a desirable timber and makes a great timber top when densified by the Generation-4 finish.

The Generation-4 finish presents a dense but flexible, low maintainance finish which is waterproof, acid and heat resistant.
