Source: Native to Oregon and California, grown as
shelterbelts and woodlots throughout New Zealand. Most successful
in Cental North Island
Availability: Intermittently available
Air Drying Density: 480kg/m3
Characteristics: A stable, durable and strong softwood
that is a pale brown/yellow and dries easily. In New Zealand,
clearwood is hard to find so most grades have knots of varying
types. Machines, glues and polishes well. Durable outside
if kept dry. Has a strong spicy smell.
Traditional uses: Boat building, framing, weatherboards,
shingles, panelling and furniture.
