Botanical Name:
Agathis australis

Source: The largest and most renowned of New Zealand’s forest giants.

Availability: Fully protected except from existing stock. Sapwood is more available from some second growth harvest and farm bush blocks.

Air Drying Density: 560kg/m3

Characteristics: The heart timber is light biscuit brown to reddish and the sapwood (Pale Kauri) is light brown. The grain is straight and clean with a pronounced fleck.

Traditional uses: Carvings, canoes, boats and ships. Building, construction, engineering and mining. Housing, furniture, joinery and sink-benches. The Sapwood is less valuable than the heartwood and was cut to waste at earlier times.

Generation-4 Timber Top specification:
Kauri is a traditional timber and when available makes excellent timber tops when presented with the Generation-4 finish.

The Generation-4 finish presents a dense but flexible, low maintainance finish, that is waterproof, acid and heat resistant.
